Nice hood for the 18-55mm VR kit lens
Note that the HB-33 lens hood for the earlier (non-VR) version of the 18-55mm kit lens attaches in the same way, by spring-loaded clips that fit into a groove around the front of the lens, and will work perfectly well on the VR lens but can't be reversed on it because of the VR lens's larger diameter. That's the only reason you need the HB-45 hood instead on this lens.Also, to the fellow who complained that this hood is not flower-shaped: that's because the front component of the 18-55mm lens rotates when focusing. Flower-shaped hoods are only suitable for lenses with non-rotating front ends, since the "petals" must be aligned properly with the lens.I like these lens hoods. They are quick and easy to snap on or off the lens by pressing the buttons on the sides, and do their job well. Yes, it would be nice if Nikon included them with the lens as they do with most other lenses, but for $15 or so I don't mind paying for them.

Must-have for 18-55mm lens keepers
The lens hood can be secured to the Nikkor 18-55mm lens in reverse orientation; this is how I carry it in my soft case or camera bag or at night. Even with it secured in reverse you can still turn the focus ring manually. It clips on fast and easy and is made well. If you plan on keeping your kit lens for a while this is a must-have and a no-brainer for the price (under $20). I only wish this hood had come with my D60 camera kit in the first place!

Well Made But Pricey For a Plastic Hood
This plastic, circular hood should have come standard with the D40 or D60 18-55mm Nikon AF-S DX kit lens, but unfortunately it does not. The hood's outside moulding is of the same non-glossy textured finish matching the D60's body perfectly. It fits bayonet style over the lenses focus ring, thereby also allowing a filter and a lens cap. The hood's inner ring also has notches that grip the len's focus ring, allowing for manual focus by gripping the hood without the hood sliding. Hood may also be attached backwards onto lens for easier storage inside a camera case. If not for its high price for a plastic hood, I would give it 5 stars.------------------------------Note: Hood can leave a shadow at bottom end of the picture when the D60's built-in flash is used and lens is at the wide end.

Great lens hood for my D3000 lens kit
The price is well worth having this lens hood on my D3000 lens kit. It's build quality is on par with most lens hoods that are supplied with lens purchase. Only issue is the on-board flash shows a shadows in the pics, but that is typical with lens hoods. Just remove it before you take any flash photos and your good.

I am happy!
The product fits the Nikon D5100 18-55mm lens. no problems and it stay in the lens.The problem is just if you have big hands or impatience... If you are good.. you can put the hood from the inverse position to the normal position in around 5 seconds. it is fast or not for you? well... count 5 seconds...Quality... pretty good (a little hard) plastic...

Adorama lens hood for Nikon 18-55mm
Just received my new adorama lens hood i bought this instead of spending $25 on the "official" Nikon lens hood..I didn't own the name brand before this but this lens hood seems to match perfectly to the Nikon version.. it does its job well stays securely attached to my lens and the spotted black matches very well to the actual camera body.. I was hesitant at first to purchase a piece for my camera that wasnt a Nikon product..but then again i couldn't see myself spending $20+ on a plastic lens hood with the Nikon logo stamped on it..I am totally happy with this purchase and even happier with the $12.00+ in savings if you are looking to pick up a lens hood i would absolutely recommend this one and you may see other reviews for similar products that claim the plastic is "cheap" or flimsy..but this particular plastic seems just fine although im sure you could argue that it could be thicker or sturdier.. IMO the primary job of the lens hood is to block out Unwanted light and to help...

The bad: It is overpriced for a piece of plastic. The good: It fits well on my Nikkor 18-55mm lens and cuts down on the flares that you see so often in those sunny shots. It's a good backup or spare lens hood.

Not bad for the price.
This item sold for one penny, but the shipping was about four dollars. I figured 'what the heck', it's worth a shot at that price. As others have said it does not feel as sturdy as the Nikon brand (I have a Nikon brand for a 58mm opening). The connection method is the same as the Nikon, four plastic tabs controlled by two buttons on the the side of the lens hood. I have had no difficulty removing it or putting it on. Also, at 18mm on the kit lens when using the pop-up flash, there is small shadow at the very bottom of the picture, but apparently the Nikon one does the same thing. To not have the shadow would render the hood pointless. Solution: Get a real flash, you should have one anyway if you have a good enough camera to use this lens. So yeah, a cheap Chinese knock-off, but not much out of pocket lost.

Satisfactory
As a lifetime Nikon user, this shade is the first non-nikon product I've ever purchased as part of a basic camera or lens configuration. It's well made and solid, but I find it somewhat awkward to both put on and to make it seat firmly in reverse when not shooting. Perhaps it's just me, or maybe the Nikon shade, HB-45, would pose the same challenge. Looking at the design, I wonder if one of the old 52mm screw-in ones like the nikon HN-3 (for 35mm lens) would serve just as well for the 18-55mm kit lens on the D200 I still use occasionally?

Great Hood
This lens hood replaced my original Nikon hood I bought for my D60. The Nikon and the aftermarket are the exact same quality. I lost my Nikon during a trip and decided that paying over twenty dollars for an original was too much especially since it should have been included with the camera lens. I am so glad I bought this one because it was about thirteen dollars cheaper yet does just as good as job.

Addition to my camera
So far, this product has performed as advertised. I have had it for a couple of weeks and have taken several photos using it. The lens hood attaches fairly securely but would be better if it threaded onto the lens/filter. It stays in place and putting the lens cap on can be done without any interference from the lens hood. I would reccommend this item if you can't find a NIKON brand.
